This Was is Jethro Tull’s debut album, released in 1968. At this early stage, the band had a strong blues influence, with jazz elements and the signature flute of frontman Ian Anderson already beginning to shape their sound. The album features a mix of original compositions and traditional blues covers, and it represents a period before the group fully embraced progressive rock and British folk. It is also the only Jethro Tull studio album to feature guitarist Mick Abrahams, whose blues orientation was central to this early sound.
