Sparks is the debut album by the Los Angeles art-pop duo Ron and Russell Mael, originally released in January 1972 under the name Halfnelson. Produced by Todd Rundgren, the album captures the Maels’ early flair for theatrical and quirky pop-rock, blending inventive arrangements with Russell’s striking falsetto and Ron’s eccentric songwriting. Though it was a commercial underperformer at the time, it has since been praised for its inventive, ahead-of-its-time sound.
