Released on August 26, 1991, Leisure is Blur’s debut studio album, capturing the band’s early Madchester and shoegaze influences before they fully embraced their Britpop identity. At the time, the UK music scene was dominated by baggy rhythms, psychedelic guitars, and danceable grooves, led by bands like The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, and Inspiral Carpets. While Leisure was a commercial success, reaching #7 on the UK Albums Chart, critics initially viewed it as somewhat derivative. However, over time, it has gained cult status for its dreamy, hypnotic textures and the early glimpses of Blur’s evolving sound. The album includes breakout singles like She's So High and There's No Other Way, the latter becoming Blur’s first major hit.
