Released in 2019, Flygod Is An Awesome God is Westside Gunn’s follow-up to his cult-classic debut Flygod, continuing the high-art-meets-gutter-street-rap ethos that defines the Griselda sound. While more concise and experimental than its predecessor, this project furthers Gunn’s vision of merging grimy boom-bap with the world of luxury fashion, wrestling references, and spiritual overtones.

With production from Madlib, Daringer, Evidence, and JR Swiftz, the album maintains a lo-fi rawness while introducing more melodic and atmospheric touches. Highlights include “Birkin,” a soulful yet sinister standout, and “Gunnlib,” a rare Madlib collaboration that delivers dusty surrealism. Features from artists like Benny the Butcher and Conway the Machine ground the record in Griselda’s gritty core, while Gunn’s eccentric cadences and ad-libs keep it unpredictable.
