Fleetwood Mac's self-titled album, released on July 11, 1975, marks a pivotal moment in the band's history. Often referred to as the "White Album" due to its cover, it is the band's tenth studio release and the first to feature guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and vocalist Stevie Nicks, following the departure of Bob Welch in late 1974. This lineup change ushered in a new era for Fleetwood Mac, blending their established blues-rock roots with a more polished pop-rock sound.
The album produced several successful singles, including "Over My Head," "Rhiannon," and "Say You Love Me," all of which reached the Billboard Top 20. Additionally, "Landslide" became a perennial fan favorite, though it didn't see an official single release until 1997 when the band re-recorded the track for The Dance.
Commercially, the album was a significant success. It debuted at number 183 on the US Billboard 200 chart on August 2, 1975, and eventually reached the number one spot on September 4, 1976, 58 weeks after its initial entry. The album has been certified seven times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), denoting over seven million copies sold in the United States.
Critically, the album was well-received, with Rolling Stone noting it as "easily the group’s best and most consistent album since Bare Trees."
