Alice is the 14th studio album by American singer-songwriter Tom Waits, originally released in 2002. To commemorate its 20th anniversary, a special edition was released, featuring a 2xLP set pressing, with an etching on Side D.
The album comprises songs written for the play "Alice," directed by Robert Wilson, with whom Waits had previously collaborated on "The Black Rider." The play, inspired by Lewis Carroll's muse for "Alice in Wonderland," premiered at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg in 1992 and has since been performed worldwide.
Alice is often regarded as a collection of tender ballads, featuring fragile, haunted musings, laments, mad ruminations, and tales of unrequited love.
