Produced by Rich Costey, who had previously worked on Ellipsis (2016), A Celebration of Endings sees Biffy Clyro embracing a more expansive sound, blending their usual alt-rock energy with elements of electronic music, progressive rock, and even orchestral arrangements. The album presents a more polished, refined approach compared to earlier works but still retains the raw energy and emotional intensity that fans love.
The album’s themes are largely shaped by the tumultuous times leading up to its creation. The title, A Celebration of Endings, speaks to both personal and societal endings—ranging from personal loss and change to the broader sense of societal upheaval during the global pandemic. Despite its darker themes, the album is also about resilience, hope, and renewal, with many of the tracks balancing intense introspection with moments of catharsis and defiance.
