Released on March 15, 1999, 13 is Blur’s sixth studio album and marks a significant departure from their earlier Britpop sound. It embraces a more experimental and emotionally raw approach, influenced by frontman Damon Albarn’s breakup with Justine Frischmann (of Elastica). The album blends lo-fi, electronic, gospel, and psychedelic rock elements, showcasing Blur’s willingness to evolve beyond their 1990s Britpop roots. Produced by William Orbit, 13 features some of the band’s most introspective and atmospheric work, with themes of heartbreak, alienation, and introspection. The album received critical acclaim and was a commercial success, debuting at #1 on the UK Albums Chart.
